Feeder service dept. has been assigned to operate the route of HCMC - Cantho - Mythoi and vice versa by barge.
In order to satisfy the demands of import-export activities from the local companies through Cantho port, since 1999, Saigon Maritime PLC. (SHC) has launched a new service of transportation by barge from HCMC - Cantho and vice versa. At the beginning , only two barges were put into operation with two regular voyages per week with the volume only less than 100 teus / month. Up to now SHC has 10 barges with the frequency of two voyages / day and the volume is about 1,500 teus / month. Especially, most of cargo are reefer containers.
Formerly, the local companies in Mekong Delta River had to carry cargo by freezer trucks to Saigon port for stuffing into containers, that not only raised the expenses but also not ensure the quality and the protection of frozen food.
The means of transportation by barge has been receiving strong support from local companies. This showed the volume of cargo we carry increased day by day so far. The cargo has been stuffed into reefer container by very workers of the factories at their warehouses. Consequently, the container temperature always corresponds with international standard from out of gate to destination in oversea countries.
Recently, the volume and turn-over of aquatic products export in 2007 will have an increase of 15% compared with the year 2006. Regarding pangasuis basa and cat fish turn-over export in Mekong Delta in 2005 is USD 328 millions, in 2006 is USD 661 millions, the estimated turn-over for export in 2007 will be USD 1.5 billion. At the current situation, our western services in 2007 will increase 15% compared with 2006.
At present, we have fulfilled to build 2 more barges in order to enhance our transportation capacity of the route. We plan to put these two barges into operation in the second quarter of this year.
We always innovate to enrich the quality of our services under the motto "Win-Win", it means the customers' profit is ours, the customers' risk is ours.
